We are back!
On Sunday morning I got up early, loaded the kids and the dog into the van, and set out on our 650 mile trip. We made it in just under 9 hours. Not bad! Fortunately the roads were pretty empty, even on a holiday weekend. We take 95 almost the entire way down and I've never seen it so deserted. Of course we also left before 6am on a Sunday.
We stopped briefly for me to get hot chocolate at Starbucks and fill up the gas tank. Then we didn't stop again until we ate lunch at a rest stop somewhere in NC. I had a packed lunch and water bottles so we just pulled over, ate, did the potty thing, and walked the dog. Don't ask about the potty thing, you don't want to know. Let's just say I would never take 4 kids into a rest stop bathroom. Never.
I have been on a packing/cleaning frenzy since we got back. I'm ripping through rooms like a little organizing tornado. We're moving M into the office so we can "stage" the place and make it look more like a fourth bedroom than a junk pile. I guess I am nesting already?
The girls are all better, aside from a random cough here and there. M is still coughing a lot when he plays and at night. J is coughing but has improved a lot! Unfortunately I am still wheezing. My asthma meds weren't cutting it and I still have signs of infection so I'm doing another round of antibiotics, against my better judgment. I just cannot get this crap out of my lungs. Jason is worried I'm going to stop breathing in the middle of the night. I'm trying a viral remedy with the kids (Thank you Emily!!!) so we'll see if that helps.
Two nights ago I made a late-night run to Home Depot, forgetting that we are not in civilization anymore and that all stores close at dusk around here. It was a wasted trip since I got there at closing time, but I somehow managed to crack our windshield while I was out. To the tune of $300 for a brand new windshield. My timing, as always, is impeccable.
There is a lot going on and I'm going to post an update about the babies in another post. For now here are some pictures of our last crazy month!
Sarah enjoying her second birthday!
Leila opening gifts.
Sarah again, wearing her birthday dress. I made these dresses for them out of this adorable cupcake fabric. I have a fabric addiction and belong to some co-ops where I can get great deals on this stuff.
Jason and his girls.
Birthday dinner-we cooked out on the grill.
The Dora birthday cake that I managed to make despite the fact that I was dying.
Leila is so happy to be two!!!
Sarah is almost as delighted!
