Thank You Sweet Lady At The Restaurant

Dear Stranger,

You don't know me but you stopped by my family's table last night at Red Robin. We were taking our 6 children out to dinner to celebrate something special that has happened to us recently. Our children were finishing up their meals when you came over and spoke to me.

At first I thought you were going to comment about the number of children we had or perhaps ask if they were twins. Or maybe you'd tell me I have my hands full. Instead you said something that warmed my heart on a cold December night.

You told me how blessed I am to have these children. And then you told me that you were amazed at our parenting and that we were doing such a wonderful job with our children.

I couldn't find the words at that moment so I just thanked you and smiled.

But I want you to know that it means so much to us to hear that we are doing something right. When it feels like this life is just too much at times, there is always a reminder that this is a gift, not a burden.

Two weeks ago we paid a visit to Santa. He was also amazed at how many little ones we were toting with us that evening. When we told him that they were all ours he said, "They'll keep you young." And I replied, "Either that our make me get old faster!" And he insisted that they'll definitely keep us young.

Santa is right.

These kids will keep us young! I may have gray hairs at 28, but I feel young when I see my children having fun. They are changing and learning so much each day. How is it possible that God trusts us enough to let us raise these little ones?

This Christmas I am overwhelmed by the blessings in our life. One year ago (on Christmas Day!) I conceived our beautiful twin boys. We have 6 happy and healthy children. We have seen the generosity of strangers pour out to our family. We don't deserve this. And yet, this is our life.

So thank you for the reminder. Because sometimes a little encouragement is all that I need to lift my spirits and make me strive to be a better mother. Thank you for coming over and making me smile last night.

Merry Christmas!

Heather
